180 Ghanaians Return Home from Libya

• 2 MIN READ

The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has facilitated the return of 180 Ghanaians from Libya.

The returnees, 153 males and 27 females, including children and infants, arrived in Ghana on Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to assist Ghanaians in vulnerable situations abroad.

They were received by the Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Ghana, H.E. Mohammed Lawan Gana, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

Mr Gana welcomed the returnees and urged them to remain hopeful as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives in Ghana.

He encouraged them to make use of available support and explore opportunities in skills development, entrepreneurship and other livelihood activities to facilitate their reintegration into their communities.

The repatriation forms part of continued cooperation between the Government of Ghana, IOM and ECOWAS to support the voluntary return and reintegration of Ghanaian nationals who are stranded or living in vulnerable conditions abroad.

The initiative also supports efforts to promote safe, orderly and regular migration while ensuring that Ghanaians requiring assistance can return home safely.

The returnees are expected to receive appropriate assistance during the reintegration process, with government institutions and partner organisations working together to support their transition and wellbeing.
