Upper West Regional Minister Calls for Investment to Drive Job Creation
The Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., has called on Assemblies to translate the region’s economic potential into viable investment projects that will create jobs, improve livelihoods and accelerate local economic development.
He made the call at the Upper West Regional Investment Forum held at the Dellagio Hotel in Wa, where he stressed the need to match the region’s natural resources, agricultural strengths, cultural heritage and entrepreneurial capacity with bankable projects, infrastructure, financing and access to markets.
The Minister urged Municipal and District Assemblies to take a role in promoting local economic development by identifying their respective comparative advantages, prioritising feasible investment opportunities and strengthening engagement with the private sector.
He emphasised that investment initiatives must deliver tangible benefits to communities, particularly women and young people, through job creation, improved incomes and expanded economic opportunities.
Mr Puozuing further called on the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Assemblies to strengthen collaboration, promote transparency and establish predictable administrative processes to create an enabling environment for investment.
He also acknowledged the important role of traditional authorities in building public trust, mobilising communities and supporting development initiatives across the region.
“Our people deserve results, not promises that remain indefinitely on paper,” he said, urging the organisers to ensure that the forum produced concrete outcomes rather than ending with discussions alone.
He challenged participants to conclude the engagement with a prioritised list of investment opportunities, designated focal persons to facilitate implementation and a mechanism for tracking progress on agreed initiatives.
The Minister also appealed to investors and development partners to look beyond the challenges facing the Upper West Region and explore the opportunities available to support its economic transformation.
He assured prospective investors of the region’s readiness to engage, collaborate and contribute to Ghana’s broader development aspirations through partnerships that promote sustainable growth and improved living standards.
The Upper West Regional Investment Forum was organised by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in collaboration with partner institutions to promote investment opportunities and encourage partnerships for economic development in the region.
