KMA Completes YCAF 2.0 Grant Interviews to Identify Youth-Led Climate Solutions
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has concluded interviews for youth-led groups shortlisted for the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) 2.0 Grant, marking a key step towards selecting community-driven projects aimed at addressing climate change and improving environmental sustainability in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The exercise, held at Kanko-Hub on Wednesday, provided a platform for the shortlisted groups to present their proposed projects and outline how their initiatives could contribute to tackling climate change and promoting environmental sustainability in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The interviews formed part of the selection process to assess the proposed interventions and identify youth-led initiatives with the potential to address environmental challenges at the community level.
The Youth Climate Action Fund seeks to empower young people to develop and implement practical, community-driven solutions to the climate crisis.
The initiative encourages youth groups to translate climate awareness into tangible action by designing projects that respond to environmental concerns within their communities.
In Kumasi, the programme is expected to provide an opportunity for young people to contribute their creativity and innovative ideas towards building a cleaner, greener and more climate-resilient city.
Potential areas of intervention include environmental education, improved waste management practices, the promotion of sustainable behaviours and initiatives aimed at encouraging communities to take greater responsibility for environmental protection.
The completion of the interviews marks a key stage in the grant selection process as the Assembly assesses the shortlisted proposals for potential support under the programme.
The KMA has emphasised the importance of youth participation in local development, recognising young people as key partners in efforts to build sustainable communities and strengthen environmental governance.
The Youth Climate Action Fund 2.0 is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), C40 Cities and the Bloomberg Centre for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University.
The programme supports youth-led climate solutions in cities around the world, creating opportunities for young people to contribute directly to local climate action.
The outcome of the selection process will determine the youth-led initiatives to be supported under the grant programme.
