Interior Minister Pledges Increased Police Visibility on KNUST Campus
The Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has assured the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) of increased police visibility on campus to enhance security and create a safe environment for teaching, learning and research.
He said the increased police presence would include regular patrols on the campus as part of efforts to address security concerns and emerging threats within the university environment.
Mr Muntaka gave the assurance when the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Christian Agyare, visited him to discuss areas of collaboration between the University and the Ministry, particularly the use of technology to strengthen campus security.
The Minister congratulated Prof. Agyare on his appointment and commended KNUST for its contribution to education, research and national development.
He welcomed the University’s proposal for closer collaboration with the Ministry, particularly in leveraging technology to bridge security gaps, saying the initiative aligned with several technology-driven interventions the Ministry is pursuing.
Mr Muntaka said the Ministry was working to expand the use of technology across its agencies and services to make security operations more efficient and accessible.
He cited efforts to facilitate online background checks nationwide, saying such initiatives would improve the efficiency and accessibility of the process.
The Minister further assured the KNUST delegation of his support for the University’s security initiatives and expressed readiness to collaborate on technology, research and innovation to address security challenges.
He said stronger collaboration between the Ministry, its security agencies and academic institutions was important in developing innovative solutions to emerging security threats.
Prof. Agyare expressed the University’s interest in working closely with the Ministry and its security agencies to develop technology-driven approaches to campus security.
He said KNUST was ready to explore research and innovation opportunities that could improve the safety and security of students, staff and visitors.
