KMA, GBC Reaffirm Commitment to Drive Kumasi’s Developmental Agenda
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) have pledged to strengthen their strategic partnership to promote development, enhance civic education, and project the transformation of the metropolis.
The commitment was made when the newly appointed Regional Director of GBC, Mr Praka Anderson, led the regional management team on a courtesy call on the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, at the Assembly’s premises in Kumasi.
The visit was to formally introduce the new regional directorate leadership and explore actionable avenues for collaboration between the state broadcaster and the local government authority.
Welcoming the delegation, Mr Ofori Boadi Agyemang urged the national broadcaster to embrace digital innovation, creative programming, and strategic content monetisation to maintain its competitive edge in the evolving media landscape.
The MCE, who recalled his early professional exposure at GBC Accra, advised state media professionals to leverage digital tools and social media platforms to expand audience reach and secure commercial sustainability.
“Media houses must champion developmental journalism that inspires innovation, highlights economic opportunities, and fosters civic participation,” the Mayor stated, adding that constructive media criticism remains essential for transparent and accountable governance.
Mr Ofori Boadi Agyemang further cautioned media practitioners against the use of vulgar language on airwaves, urging broadcast journalists to uphold professional ethics and safeguard the nation’s cultural values.
He called on GBC to actively support the Assembly’s vision of positioning Kumasi as a modern, clean, and vibrant commercial hub.
On his part, the Regional Director of GBC Ashanti, Mr Praka Anderson, assured the Assembly of the Corporation’s readiness to dedicate its broadcast platforms to highlighting KMA’s developmental policies, flagship initiatives, and community projects.
Mr Anderson encouraged the Assembly to maximise GBC’s reach across the region to boost public sensitisation, policy transparency, and citizen engagement.
