Agric Ministry Calls for Support as 2026 National Farmers’ Day Approaches

• 2 MIN READ

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has appealed to Corporate Ghana and well-meaning Ghanaians to support the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration to ensure a successful event and adequately honour the country’s farmers.

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, made the call on Wednesday when he received a GH¢100,000 donation from the 2023 National Best Female Farmer, Madam Edith Akosah Wheatland, towards the 2026 National Best Female Farmer award.

Mr Opoku expressed appreciation to Madam Wheatland and Rockland Farms for the gesture, describing it as an important contribution towards the celebration and recognition of Ghanaian farmers.

He urged other past National Best Farmers, corporate organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture by supporting the celebration through donations and other forms of assistance.

The Minister said such contributions would complement the Ministry’s efforts to organise a befitting celebration and recognise the contribution of farmers to national development and food security.

He assured stakeholders that all donations received towards the celebration would be used for their intended purposes.

Madam Wheatland said her contribution was aimed at supporting the 2026 National Best Female Farmer while encouraging other past National Best Farmers to give back to the agricultural sector.

She stressed the importance of supporting women in agriculture with access to finance, markets and technology to enable them to expand their businesses and contribute to their families, communities and the wider food system.

The donation forms part of preparations towards the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration, which is being held under the theme, “Our Farmers, Our Food, Our Future.”

The national celebration is scheduled to take place on Friday, December 4, 2026, in Sunyani in the Bono Region.
