Gender Ministry Supports Flood Survivor to Rebuild Life After Tragic Loss

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has stepped in to support Bridget, a survivor of the devastating June 2026 floods in Accra, as she begins the difficult journey of rebuilding her life after losing her two children, home, and source of livelihood.

The intervention, led by Sector Minister Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, aims to help the survivor move beyond the immediate effects of the disaster and regain some measure of stability and independence.

As part of the support, the Ministry has paid one year’s rent for Bridget, providing her with a secure place to live as she works through the aftermath of the tragedy.

The Ministry has also provided her with start-up capital to engage in business. The assistance is intended to help her regain financial independence and gradually restore her ability to provide for herself.

Recognising that recovery from such a devastating experience goes beyond material assistance, the Ministry will also provide ongoing psychosocial support. A Clinical Psychologist from the Ministry is expected to engage Bridget periodically to help her cope with the grief and trauma resulting from the loss of her children.

The Ministry has expressed appreciation to individuals, organisations and well-wishers who have supported Bridget since the tragedy, noting that their assistance has provided relief and encouragement during an extremely difficult period.

While the road to recovery remains challenging, the Ministry’s intervention is expected to give Bridget a more stable foundation from which to begin rebuilding her life—with a place to live, support to restore her livelihood, and professional care to help her navigate the emotional pain of her loss.
