The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has begun investigations into a shutdown of the power system that disrupted electricity supply across parts of the country in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to the press statement, the National Interconnected Transmission System experienced the disturbance at about 3:11 a.m. GRIDCo said the incident caused the simultaneous tripping of some generating plants across the national power system, leading to interruptions in electricity supply.

The company said it had activated its established system restoration procedures and that engineers and system operators were working continuously with other power sector stakeholders to restore electricity to affected customers as quickly as possible while maintaining safety standards.

It added that a comprehensive technical investigation had commenced to determine the exact cause of the incident.

GRIDCo apologised to the public for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.

The company said it remains committed to restoring electricity supply to all affected areas and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
