No prosecution over political vendetta, but law will take its course- President Mahama

Government harbours no malice towards anyone, assuring that no individual will be prosecuted because of political vendetta, but that the law will take its course where evidence establishes wrongdoing.

President John Dramani Mahama made the remarks during a Resetting Ghana citizens’ engagement held at the Ho Technical University, as part of his tour of the Volta Region.

“On accountability, let me state clearly that this government harbours no malice towards anyone. No individual will be prosecuted because of political vendetta. However, where evidence establishes wrongdoing, the law will take its course,” he said.

He said the same standard would apply to officials serving in his own administration, adding that appointees who abuse public trust would be held equally accountable.

President Mahama said he consistently advised his ministers to follow due process and to bring important decisions before Cabinet whenever they had doubts, so that responsibility would be shared collectively.

He said this culture of accountability helped reduce corruption, eliminate waste, and allow government to invest more of its own resources into national development.

President Mahama noted that the extensive investments made over the past one and a half years had been financed largely through improved management of domestic resources rather than excessive borrowing.

He said government allocated GH¢13.8 billion to the Big Push infrastructure programme last year and had committed a further GH¢30.8 billion this year, bringing total investment under the programme to more than GH¢40 billion.

“These investments have been possible because we have reduced waste and prioritised the effective use of public resources. That commitment to prudent management will remain the hallmark of this administration,” he said.
