President Mahama Commissions 85-Bed Police Hospital Block to IMprove Healthcare for Police Officers and General Public

• 2 MIN READ

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned an 85-bed block at the Police Hospital to expand healthcare capacity and improve medical services for police officers and the general public.

The facility, equipped with modern medical facilities, forms part of efforts to improve the health and welfare of personnel of the Ghana Police Service, particularly officers injured in the line of duty.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama said the investment reflected the country’s responsibility to ensure that officers who protect the public receive timely and quality healthcare when they are injured or fall ill.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Police Management Board for their leadership in delivering the new facility, as well as the health professionals and other personnel who contributed to the project.

The President disclosed that seven officers injured in the line of duty at Bunkpurugu and Potor were already receiving treatment in the new block before its formal commissioning.

He said the facility would strengthen the hospital’s ability to treat injured officers and provide urgent medical attention to other patients requiring care.

President Mahama also emphasised the need to address the psychological effects of police work, urging the Service to make mental health support, counselling and appropriate treatment accessible to officers without fear or stigma.

He called on the hospital’s management to maintain high standards of hygiene, patient safety and clinical practice, stressing the need for regular equipment servicing, adequate medical supplies and proper maintenance of the facility.

The President further announced the donation of two ambulances to support emergency response and the safe transportation of patients requiring urgent medical attention.

He said the government remained committed to improving police welfare and healthcare, adding that the value of the new facility would ultimately be measured by the quality of care provided to patients.

President Mahama congratulated the Ghana Police Service and all those involved in the project, expressing the hope that the facility would provide reliable healthcare for police personnel and the wider Ghanaian public for years to come.
