Sogakope-Agodome- Keta Water Project set for resumption after October agreement
The stalled Sogakope-Agodome-Keta Water Project is expected to resume following a Memorandum of Understanding signed with its contractors in October to enable work to continue and the first phase to be completed.
Speaking at this year’s Hogbetsotso Festival on Saturday, President Mahama explained that the project had stalled because of Ghana’s debt restructuring, which affected its financing arrangements.
“With regard to water, the Sogakope-Agodome-Tuketa Water Project stalled as a result of the debt restructuring,” he said.
The President explained that the project was being financed through a Deutsche Bank facility but said an agreement had now been reached with the contractors, Lesiko, to facilitate their return to site.
“It was being financed through a Deutsche Bank facility. I am happy to inform you that just last month, in October, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the contractors, Lesiko, which paves the way for them to return to site, continue the work and complete Phase One of the project,” he said.
The agreement is expected to address the setback that interrupted the project’s implementation and allow the contractor to resume work.
The project is among the infrastructure developments in the Volta Region raised during the festival, where President Mahama also provided updates on road construction, coastal protection, industrial development and housing.
He said the government was working to advance projects that respond to the development needs of communities across the region.
The President also urged the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to monitor and supervise ongoing projects to ensure that they progressed as expected.
“Your Royal Majesty, much work is underway in the Volta Region, and I urge the Regional Coordinating Council to monitor closely and supervise the progress of these projects,” he said.
