Upper West Region benefits from Big Push Road Projects
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has disclosed that the Upper West Region is receiving its fair share of projects under the Government’s Big Push Infrastructure initiative.
During an inspection tour on Thursday, the Minister visited several major road projects and expressed satisfaction with the progress and pace of work.
He noted that the Wa–Han Road is currently 34.72 per cent complete, the Tumu–Han–Lawra stretch between Km 45 and 70 has reached 22.02 per cent, another section of the same road between Km 10 and 30 stands at 15 per cent, while the Tumu–Sissili–Navrongo road has advanced to 43 per cent completion.
He also inspected the Wa–Bulenga–Yaala Road, which is 27 per cent complete and ahead of schedule. According to him, the contractor, ASTEE Company Limited, has already undertaken the construction of U-drains, box culverts, earthworks, and filling to formation level.
Mr Agbodza stated that only quality work will be accepted under the Big Push programme, saying, “We will not accept any substandard work. The reset is about doing quality work and giving the people value for money.”
Briefing the media after the tour, Deputy Minister Alhassan Suhuyini explained that the government is investing heavily in the region’s road infrastructure to support agriculture and trade.
He added that the Upper West Region will also benefit from feeder-road projects under the $500 million Ghana Market Access and Connectivity Project (GMACP), which is designed to improve rural accessibility and strengthen market linkages.
The Chiefs and elders in the area expressed gratitude to the Government for fulfilling its promise, noting that the road projects are bringing relief to the communities.
