Accra International Airport to Conduct Full-Scale Emergency Simulation Exercise on October 15
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has disclosed that it will conduct a Full-Scale Emergency Simulation Exercise at the Accra International Airport on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as part of efforts to test the country’s preparedness in responding to aviation emergencies.
The exercise, scheduled to take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, is in accordance with the Ghana Civil Aviation Directives (GCAD) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices, which require a full-scale emergency exercise to be conducted at least once every two years.
According to GACL, the exercise is aimed at test the adequacy of the airport’s Contingency and Aerodrome Emergency Plans and evaluating Ghana’s preparedness in handling emergencies at the Accra International Airport.
Dubbed “FALCON EYE 2026,” the exercise will take the form of an act of unlawful interference directed against airport operations and its facilities and subsequent response by the various agencies including members of the Emergency Operation Center.
To ensure the successful planning and execution of the exercise, an Exercise Planning Team made up of representatives from GACL, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the Ghana Army and the Ghana Police Service has been tasked with developing and conducting the simulation.
GACL assured the public that airport operations are expected to experience only minimal interruptions during the exercise period.
“Management of Ghana Airports Company Limited and all Stakeholders kindly solicit the co-operation of the general public in making the exercise a success,” it concluded.
