Ghana Districts Explore UK Markets for Agricultural Produce
Municipal and District Chief Executives from Ghana have begun exploring opportunities to strengthen post-harvest processing, packaging and market access for agricultural produce through partnerships with stakeholders in the United Kingdom.
The delegation, led by the MCE for Tano North, Mr Pius Opoku, engaged the Ghana High Commission in London on Tuesday as part of efforts to identify investment opportunities and partnerships that could support agricultural development in their respective districts.
The delegation included representatives from the Asunafo North, Asutifi North and Nkoranza North Municipal and District Assemblies, as well as officials from the Ahafo Region.
The delegation is scheduled to meet farmers in Northern Ireland to explore areas for collaboration, knowledge exchange and support for agricultural development in Ghana.
Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, H.E. Mrs Sabah Zita Benson, urged the delegation to place greater focus on value addition to agricultural produce.
She said processing and value addition could create employment, increase farmers’ incomes and improve the competitiveness of Ghanaian products on international markets.
The Head of Chancery, Mr Mawutor N. Alifo, also encouraged the delegation to explore partnerships to expand grain production and strengthen agricultural infrastructure.
The discussions further covered post-harvest processing and packaging, access to modern agricultural equipment and the need to identify viable markets for agricultural produce.
The engagement forms part of efforts by the Ghana High Commission to facilitate partnerships between Ghanaian local authorities and potential investors in the UK to support agricultural development, job creation and economic growth in the participating districts.
