KMA Distances Itself from Viral Gun Incident, Says Security Taskforce Not Involved

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has clarified that its Security Taskforce was not involved in a viral video showing a police officer brandishing a gun during a confrontation with towing personnel in the Central Business District.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit, KMA on Tuesday said it had taken note of the video which captured a heated exchange between a police officer and staff of Day and Night Towing Service, a company contracted by KMA.

According to KMA’s preliminary findings, the incident occurred around 2:00 pm on Tuesday, 21st July 2026, at Roman Hill, in which personnel of Day and Night Towing Service had clamped and were preparing to tow a saloon car parked at an unauthorised location.

The Assembly stated that in the course of the towing, a uniformed police officer showed up claiming ownership of the car. A verbal exchange ensued after the officer questioned the authority of the towing team.

“KMA was informed that the police officer allegedly threatened to shoot personnel of the towing service in the foot if they attempted to tow the car,” the statement said.

The Assembly described the incident as “unfortunate and highly avoidable” and condemned the conduct.

It stressed that the matter did not involve its Security Taskforce and urged the public to disregard any false information linking the taskforce to the video.

KMA added that the matter has been officially reported to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
