Malta and Ghana Partner to Bring Ethics Materials to 3,000 Students in Accra

Project Ethics has distributed Ethics in Education books and materials to 3,000 students in 30 schools and trained 60 teachers in pilot schools around Accra, Ghana, helping young people explore honesty, responsibility and integrity through education.

Funded by the Government of Malta through its Official Development Assistance (ODA) programme, the project brings together Step Up Nigeria, Dynamic Works Foundation, Young Visionary Leaders Ghana, participating schools and teachers, and Malta’s High Commission in Accra, which helps build and carry the partnership forward.

The project in Ghana aligns closely with Malta’s experience teaching ethics in schools, creating an opportunity for the two countries to share experience.

Malta’s High Commissioner to Ghana said, “In a rapidly changing world, education must help young people judge what is right as well as understand what is new. As artificial intelligence reshapes how we learn, work and relate to one another, honesty, responsibility and integrity become ever more essential.”

At the launch of Project Ethics early this year, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announced the introduction of ethics as a school subject in Ghana. He stated, “We warmly welcome this commitment to placing values and ethical judgement at the heart of education. The rapid growth of AI and other new technologies has made ethics education more critical than ever.”

The partnership builds on earlier work with Step Up Nigeria in Ethiopia through Connecting Classrooms, alongside UNODC and Malta’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

It is deeply satisfying to see partnerships grow across Malta, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Ghana, translating shared values into practical classroom learning.
