Volta Minister Seeks Stronger Partnerships to Improve Digital Connectivity

• 2 MIN READ

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has called for stronger partnerships between government and the private sector to accelerate digital connectivity, expand access to technology and support development across the region.

He made the call when a delegation from MTN Ghana, led by its General Manager for Sales and Distribution, Mr David Gyimah-Boadi, paid a courtesy call on him to discuss areas of collaboration in digital infrastructure and regional development.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the company’s contributions to youth development, digital skills training and education, including scholarship support for 230 students from the Volta Region. It also briefed the Minister on ongoing efforts to expand network coverage.

The delegation appealed to the Regional Coordinating Council to facilitate the necessary permits for the installation of network infrastructure and support measures to protect existing telecommunications facilities.

It also called for intensified public education to help combat mobile money fraud and improve the safety of digital financial transactions.

Welcoming the delegation, Mr Gunu emphasised the importance of cooperation between government and private institutions in addressing development needs and improving access to essential services.

He noted that stronger partnerships could help expand digital infrastructure, improve communication services and create opportunities for residents, particularly young people, to acquire relevant digital skills.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for the Regional Coordinating Council and MTN to discuss practical ways of supporting infrastructure development, promoting digital inclusion and raising public awareness about mobile money security.

Mr Gunu reaffirmed the region’s interest in partnerships that contribute to its development priorities and improve the quality of life of its people.
