Obuasi MCE Supports 100 SHS Freshmen with Mattresses, Chop Boxes and Trunks

The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has presented mattresses, chop boxes and trunks to 100 first-year Senior High School (SHS) students from the municipality to ease the financial burden on their families as they begin their secondary education.

The gesture, according to the MCE, was intended to provide the students with some of the essential items needed for their transition into boarding school and complement the government’s efforts to make secondary education accessible to all eligible Ghanaian students.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to present the items, Madam Appiah Kannin said the intervention formed part of the Assembly’s corporate social responsibility and commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of young people in the municipality.

She observed that although secondary education was free under the government’s Free Senior High School policy, families continued to face financial challenges in providing certain necessities not covered by the programme.

She said the donation was intended to ease some of those challenges and enable the beneficiaries to begin their academic journey with greater confidence.

The MCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that every student who qualified for secondary education had the opportunity to pursue it, irrespective of their family’s financial circumstances.

She said investing in young people’s educational development was essential to expanding opportunities and supporting the municipality’s future development.

Receiving the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, the students thanked the MCE and the Assembly for their support, describing the gesture as timely assistance as they prepared to begin a new chapter in their academic lives.

They also commended the MCE for her concern for their welfare and her commitment to supporting students across the municipality.
