President Mahama advances national airline plans with Boeing support

• 1 MIN READ

President John Dramani Mahama has advanced plans to re-establish Ghana’s national airline following discussions with officials of the Boeing Group, which is supporting the country in the process.

Preliminary studies have affirmed the viability of the proposed airline, with a roadmap agreed to guide its establishment and eventual operations.

The roadmap includes identifying a strategic airline partner and a technical partner, acquiring an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), selecting an appropriate fleet and determining financing arrangements for the project.

The Boeing team assured President Mahama of its continued support throughout the establishment and operational phases of the airline.

The proposed national carrier is expected to increase the utilisation of Ghana’s improved airport infrastructure and support President Mahama’s vision of positioning Accra as the premier aviation hub in West Africa.

Beyond strengthening Ghana’s aviation sector, the airline is also expected to create thousands of jobs across the industry, including opportunities for pilots, cabin crew, aeronautical engineers and aviation management specialists.

The initiative forms part of efforts to rebuild Ghana’s national aviation capacity, improve connectivity and position the country to take greater advantage of opportunities in the regional and international aviation market.
