MoFA Commits to Successful Implementation of Wa Grain Storage Project
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the successful implementation of a 21,000-tonne grain storage facility to be established in Wa in the Upper West Region under the Feed Ghana Programme.
The sector minister, Eric Opoku, gave the assurance at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MoFA and DMT Collateral Management Limited on Tuesday, in Accra.
The Minister commended DMT Collateral Management Limited and the Danish Embassy for facilitating the project, which is expected to strengthen grain storage capacity, reduce post-harvest losses and enhance national food security.
The Chief Executive Officer of DMT Collateral Management Limited, Paul Sannie Minlah, said the facility would serve as a Food Security Hub and incorporate an emergency grain reserve known as the Hospital Bin to ensure food stocks are available during periods of national need.
The project, involving an export credit facilitated by the Danish Embassy of approximately €4.8 million and an additional investment of about €5 million, will also provide training opportunities for National Service personnel, Feed Ghana Brigades and Ghanaian technicians in silo operations, grain handling and maintenance.
The facility is expected to be completed and commissioned by August 2027.
