Transport Minister Raises Concern Over Port Delays
The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has raised concern over the rising costs passed on to consumers due to delays in container clearance at the Tema Port, describing the situation as “not the best.”
Speaking during a working visit to Meridian Port Services (MPS), Mr Nikpe explained that prolonged clearance processes attract extra charges, which are eventually transferred to the public.
The Minister assured MPS management that he would collaborate with other Ministries whose agencies are involved in container inspections and clearance at the harbour to fast-track the process.
He noted that the government is deeply concerned about the impact of congestion, pledging that the necessary measures will be implemented to speed up inspections and clearance of containers at the port.
