Northern Regional Minister Directs Government Departments to Improve Coordination and Accountability
The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John, has directed Heads of Departments and Units under the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) to strengthen collaboration, improve accountability and ensure the timely delivery of public services to accelerate development across the region.
The directive was given at the Second Quarter Expanded Management Meeting of the NRCC in Tamale on Tuesday, where heads of departments, unit heads and senior officers reviewed institutional performance, assessed development priorities and discussed strategies to enhance coordination among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The Minister stressed that effective collaboration among government institutions is essential for the successful implementation of policies and programmes, noting that the mandates of many departments are interconnected and require collective action to achieve sustainable development outcomes.
He also expressed concern over delays in the submission of quarterly reports by some departments, describing the reports as critical tools for monitoring performance, informing policy decisions and demonstrating the impact of government interventions.
Mr Ali Adolf John urged all Heads of Departments and Agencies to prioritise the timely preparation and submission of reports to enable the Regional Coordinating Council to fulfil its statutory reporting obligations to the relevant national institutions.
The Acting Chief Director of the NRCC, Mr Sumaila Ewuntomah Abudu, said the meeting was organised to evaluate departmental performance, strengthen institutional coordination and identify practical solutions to challenges affecting public service delivery.
He encouraged departments with related mandates to jointly plan programmes, share information and work together to improve the implementation of government initiatives across the region.
As part of the meeting, the Regional Coordinator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) for the Northern and North East Regions, Mr Isaac Konlaan, briefed participants on the government’s MAHAMACARES initiative, highlighting ongoing investments in specialised healthcare infrastructure, medical equipment and financial support for the treatment of selected non-communicable diseases.
He announced that the Tamale Teaching Hospital has been approved to receive a modern oxygen plant, MRI and CT scan machines, a mammography unit and oxygen concentrators to improve specialised healthcare delivery in Northern Ghana.
He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership and encouraged staff of the Regional Coordinating Council to maintain open communication, teamwork and professionalism in advancing the government’s development agenda for the Northern Region.
