Kwadaso MCE Cuts Sod for 24-Hour Economy Multi-Purpose Market
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwadaso, Eric Asibey, has cut the sod for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Multi-Purpose Market at the site of the former onion market.
The sod-cutting ceremony, held on Tuesday, marks the commencement of the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy initiative, which aims to stimulate local commerce, create employment opportunities, and promote round-the-clock economic activity to improve livelihoods.
Addressing participants at the ceremony, Mr Asibey said the project forms part of the government’s broader agenda to transform urban centres into vibrant commercial hubs that operate day and night.
He further explained that the modern market will help decongest existing trading centres, improve security for traders, and provide a conducive environment for businesses to flourish.
According to the MCE, the project is expected to create thousands of both direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly for the youth and women within the municipality, while boosting economic growth in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional authorities, Nana Nkansah Ababio of Edwenase Wioso commended the government for selecting Kwadaso as one of the beneficiaries of the initiative.
He noted that the market would ease congestion in existing markets, expand business opportunities, and significantly enhance commercial activities in the municipality.
The contract for the construction of the market has been awarded to Emmaks Company Limited.
The sod-cutting ceremony was attended by the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), members of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), traditional leaders, Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, staff of the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly, executives and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), market women, youth groups, and other key stakeholders.
