SEKTAK Project to Reclaim 1,000 Hectares for Takoradi Marine Complex

The Sekondi-Takoradi (SEKTAK) Project is set to reclaim approximately 1,000 hectares of new land from the sea for the establishment of a Multipurpose Marine Industrial Complex.

At a stakeholder consultative meeting chaired by the Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the initiative was described as a strategic initiative to expand Takoradi Port beyond conventional operations.

He stated that the reclaimed land will host complementary infrastructure to support shipping, offshore operations, business and trade, as well as improved connectivity and facilities that could contribute to the development of a modern port city in Takoradi.

Mr Nikpe said the vision for Takoradi Port goes beyond cargo handling, aiming to create a hub that integrates marine industry with urban development.

Stakeholders at the meeting deliberated on the project’s potential to transform Takoradi into an integrated marine, industrial, and logistics hub.

They clarified that the SEKTAK Project is designed to complement, not compete with or replace, the existing Takoradi Port, and assured that it would not involve the acquisition of farmlands or displacement of existing settlements.
