EU to Support Ghana’s Defence Capacity Through European Peace Facility

The European Union (EU) has announced plans to provide funding through the European Peace Facility (EPF) to strengthen Ghana’s defence capabilities in the coming year.

The announcement was made by the Head of Division for the European Peace Facility, Ms Dorota Dlouchy Suliga, during a high-level meeting with the Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr.  Ernest Brogya Genfi, in Accra.

The meeting, attended by the EU Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebech, and Policy Officer, Ms Maria Castaldi, focused on strengthening collaboration between Ghana and the European Union in addressing emerging security challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Ms Suliga reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to working with Ghana as an equal partner to tackle shared security concerns.

She noted that the planned support under the European Peace Facility reflects the EU’s continued commitment to promoting peace, stability and regional security.

Mr. Genfi welcomed the EU’s continued partnership and expressed appreciation for its sustained support to Ghana’s defence sector.

He highlighted the evolving security threats confronting the country and outlined measures being implemented by government to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly the Ghana Navy.

According to the Deputy Minister, the deployment of operational platforms by the Ghana Navy forms part of efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and strategic assets while enhancing the country’s ability to respond to emerging security threats.
