Ghana, Egypt Explore Deeper Cooperation in Agriculture and Industry
Ghana and Egypt have taken steps to strengthen bilateral trade relations, following a courtesy call by the Ambassador of Egypt to Ghana, H.E. Wael Fathy Ahmed, on the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Madam Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in Accra, to discuss ways of expanding trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The engagement focused on enhancing collaboration in key sectors of mutual interest, including technical and training, poultry production, animal feed manufacturing, and other potential joint ventures aimed at promoting economic growth in both countries.
The Minister said Ghana and Egypt must formalise their trade relations through a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate closer economic cooperation and unlock new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
She encouraged both countries to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to boost intra-African trade, investment, and industrial development.
She noted that Ghana is well-positioned for stronger collaboration following Government’s approval of some strategic policies under the Ministry, including the Textile and Garment Policy, the Pharmaceutical Policy, and the Automotive Policy, all of which are expected to drive industrial growth and attract investment.
She further stated that the Ministry’s Agribusiness Directorate is committed not only to promoting value addition but also to supporting the production and sustainable supply of raw materials required to strengthen local industries.
During the discussions, Ambassador Ahmed highlighted Egypt’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Ghana by sharing expertise and exploring investment opportunities in agriculture and other key sectors of Ghana’s economy.
He stressed the importance of building strong partnerships that would create jobs, enhance skills development, and increase trade between the two countries.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Ghana and Egypt to expanding economic cooperation, fostering private sector partnerships, and advancing sustainable industrial development for the mutual benefit of both nations.
