President Mahama Urges AGWF Delegates to Translate Congress Resolutions into Lasting Community Impact
President John Dramani Mahama has urged delegates attending the 10th Triennial Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship to turn their discussions and resolutions into practical initiatives that improve lives and support communities beyond the duration of the gathering.
He said the lasting value of the congress would depend on the actions delegates took after returning to their respective countries and congregations, particularly in supporting vulnerable communities, creating opportunities for young people and strengthening partnerships for service.
“The lasting story of this Congress will be written in the lives that we touch after the closing prayer,” President Mahama said.
He made the call when he officially opened the 2026 congress at the Accra International Conference Centre, where more than 10,000 participants had gathered under the theme, “Commissioned, One Mandate, Every Nation.
President Mahama said the gathering presented an opportunity for the global fellowship to renew its commitment to the mission of the Church and identify practical ways to respond to the needs of people in different communities.
He encouraged delegates to ensure that the relationships and ideas developed during the congress resulted in lasting partnerships and tangible support for people facing hardship.
The President urged participants to return home with practical commitments, including partnerships to support schools, health ministries and congregations operating in difficult circumstances. He also called for initiatives that would provide young people with opportunities to develop their abilities and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
He said the Church’s mission should extend beyond preaching to include practical expressions of compassion, such as providing food for hungry children, showing care to patients, helping young people acquire skills, supporting widows and assisting struggling families.
“I encourage this Congress to give renewed attention to the link between proclamation and service,” he stated.
President Mahama also called on churches to make their influence felt in workplaces and neighbourhoods through honesty, patience, fairness and integrity. He said the conduct of believers in their daily lives should reflect the values they profess.
He further urged the fellowship to strengthen its engagement with young people by listening to their concerns, providing guidance and entrusting them with meaningful responsibilities.
“Let us all be mentors to our younger generation. Let us be mentors who listen, offer opportunities to serve and set examples of integrity that these young people can follow,” he said.
The President said the Church also had a responsibility to protect children and vulnerable people, stressing the need for responsible conduct, clear safeguards and accountability to preserve trust in religious institutions.
He encouraged the fellowship to recognise the contributions of women to congregational life and create room for their wisdom, abilities and leadership in preparing the Church for the future.
President Mahama welcomed delegates to Ghana on behalf of the government and people, describing the gathering as a historic moment for the country and the African continent. He noted that it was believed to be the first global congress of a church to be held in Ghana and the first World Congress of the Assemblies of God Church to take place in Africa.
He thanked Assemblies of God Ghana, the organisers, volunteers, congregations and public institutions whose efforts had contributed to the gathering.
The President expressed hope that the congress would bring spiritual renewal, strengthen fellowship among participants and inspire renewed commitment to service in Ghana and across the world.
“May the friendships that we form here become channels of service,” he said, wishing the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Assemblies of God Ghana and all nations represented at the congress God’s blessings.
