AMA Boss Provides Flood-Hit Accra Communities with GH¢132,000, Food and Sanitation Items

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has moved to cushion residents displaced by recent downpours, with the Mayor Mr. Michael Kpakpo Allotey leading a relief mission to four flood-affected areas in the metropolis.

A total of GH¢132,000 in cash, food supplies and cleaning equipment was distributed to victims in Avenor, Circle Neoplan Station, North Kaneshie and Bubuashie on Wednesday.

The package covered GH¢130,000 in direct cash aid, plus GH¢2,000 to a shop owner to clear a blocked drain.

It also included 31 boxes of cooking oil –numbering 372 bottles, 120 bags of 25kg rice (600 bags), eight wheelbarrows and eight shovels to support clean-up efforts.

Speaking to residents, Mr. Allotey said the relief was presented on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the AMA and the area MP, Mr. Ernest Adomako, to help families cope after losing mattresses, utensils, food and other household items.

He noted that the Assembly had already deployed compactors at no cost and sanitation workers to clear gutters and debris, adding that second phase of support will follow after a full household assessment.

The Mayor also cautioned residents against dumping waste in drains, saying it blocks water flow and worsens flooding.

He pledged that AMA will keep working with leaders and agencies to desilt drains and prevent future disasters.

He further urged victims to remain united and ensure the items reach the most vulnerable.
