AMA Trains 50 Women and Unemployed Youth in Soap Production

• 2 MIN READ

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has organised a free skills training programme in soap and detergent production for 50 women and unemployed young people to promote self-employment and financial independence.

The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to reduce unemployment, promote entrepreneurship and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women and young people within the metropolis.

This took place at the premises of the Assembly on Saturday. The training was done to equip participants with practical skills in the production of liquid soap, bar soap and after-wash products to enable them to establish small-scale businesses, generate income and improve their livelihoods.

In addition to the practical training, participants received guidance on entrepreneurial discipline, sound financial management and ways to explore opportunities for expanding their sources of income.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on behalf of the Mayor, the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr Douglas N. K. Annoful, said the initiative reflected the mayor’s commitment to empowering women and unemployed young people through practical skills development and sustainable economic opportunities.

He explained that the programme was a deliberate intervention aimed at equipping beneficiaries with productive skills to improve their economic circumstances and enable them to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Mr Annoful noted that the acquisition of practical and entrepreneurial skills could help beneficiaries establish their own businesses, become financially independent and create opportunities for improved livelihoods.

The initiative also highlights the Assembly’s efforts to support local entrepreneurship and promote economic empowerment among vulnerable groups within the metropolis.

Through the programme, the AMA seeks to encourage beneficiaries to apply the skills acquired to productive ventures and explore opportunities for sustainable income generation.
