Interior Minister Calls for Stronger Command Synergy to Tackle Emerging Security Threats

The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on Regional and Sector Commanders of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to strengthen coordination, professionalism, and leadership to effectively address evolving migration and security threats facing the country.

He said enhanced command synergy is indispensable to achieving operational success, institutional discipline, accountability and sustainable growth, stressing that no security institution can effectively function in isolation.

Mr. Muntaka made the remarks on Monday at the opening of the Ghana Immigration Service Regional Commanders’ Conference at the GIS Centre of Excellence in Accra.

Speaking on the theme, “Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth,” the Minister noted that the conference comes at a critical time when Ghana and the wider sub-region continue to grapple with irregular migration, human trafficking, transnational organised crime, terrorism and cyber-enabled threats.

He charged Commanders to demonstrate integrity, fairness and discipline in the discharge of their responsibilities, while using the conference as an opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices and develop practical strategies to strengthen the Service’s operations.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the Ghana Immigration Service by improving its operational capabilities, logistics, infrastructure and the welfare of personnel to enable the Service to effectively safeguard Ghana’s borders.

He also commended officers and men of the Service for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices in protecting the country’s territorial integrity and contributing to national peace, security and development.

Mr. Muntaka commended the Comptroller-General of Immigration and the Management of the Service for prioritising staff welfare, logistics enhancement and infrastructure development, describing these as essential investments in building a motivated, professional and operationally ready workforce.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, emphasised that discipline remains the cornerstone of effective immigration administration and border security.

He noted that Regional and Sector Commanders play an important role in translating national policies into operational success across the country’s borders.

He expressed confidence that the conference would strengthen leadership capacity and reinforce the command structures needed to enhance the effectiveness of the Service.
