Ashanti Regional ISD Director Sensitises Residents on Free Primary Health
The Ashanti Regional Director of the Information Services Department (ISD), Mr Charles Nkrumah, has sensitised residents of Nyankyerenease in the Kwadaso Municipality on the Government’s flagship Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) policy.
Mr Nkrumah led the sensitisation on Wednesday during the commissioning and handover ceremony of the newly constructed Nyankyerenease CHPS Compound.
Addressing traditional leaders, Assembly members, health workers and residents at the ceremony, he explained that under the FPHC policy, essential healthcare services provided at CHPS Compounds, health centres and polyclinics are free, irrespective of whether a person holds a valid National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card.
He said services covered under the policy include the treatment of malaria, typhoid and diarrhoea; management of minor injuries and wound dressing; antenatal and postnatal care; child welfare services and immunisation; as well as screening for hypertension and diabetes.
According to Mr Nkrumah, the policy seeks to remove financial barriers that prevent ordinary Ghanaians, particularly market women, drivers, farmers, artisans, persons with disabilities and the aged, from seeking early medical attention.
He said the initiative would also help reduce self-medication and prevent avoidable deaths by encouraging residents to seek timely healthcare.
Mr Nkrumah commended the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly for constructing the CHPS Compound, noting that the facility would put the FPHC policy into practice by bringing essential healthcare services closer to residents of Nyankyerenease and surrounding communities.
He urged residents to take full advantage of the policy by visiting the facility whenever they fell ill or required healthcare services.
The Regional Director also commended officers of the Kwadaso Municipal Information Services Department for their sustained public education campaign on the FPHC policy across market centres, lorry stations, information centres, churches, mosques and schools.
